Meet the herd
Here at Rancho Saman we know it is the horse that makes the riding holiday. We have over the years built a team of horses that we are extremely proud of. Each one of our team brings something different. We have horses to suit all riding abilities and tastes.
Here at the ranch we have a mixture of Appaloosas, Colombian Criollo, Quarter horses, Paso Fino and Andalusian. All have been trained to respond to English and Western riding styles and each has their own custom made saddle ensuring they and you are comfortable throughout your trip.

Claim to fame: Once travelled from the north of Colombia, through Ecuador 3000kms and 11 months to the border of Peru (and carried a human) Could be head of the herd but not bothered, spends time with every other horse in the paddock.

Tabasco Jack
Age: 9
Breed: Spanish cross Colombian Criollo
Height: 15.2hh
About: As intelligent as he is handsome, loves a long canter, being brushed, banana and messing with Red. Has ambitions of being head of the herd

Age: 8
Breed: Colombian Criollo
Height: 15.2hh
About: Former racehorse, extremely clever, can untie knots, open gates and knows exactly where the feed store is!

Brio
Age: 10
Breed: Paso Fino
Height: 14.3hh
About: Quite possibly the kindest horse on the planet and the most comfortable to ride! His “paso” means no need for rising trot, sit deep and enjoy what feels like floating. Also has a sideline as an actor, 2 music videos on his resume.
Likes: Guava, greeting every other horse (and sometimes cow or statue of horse) when out on trail.

Nicknames: Vincent Vega, El Jefe
About: Head of the herd. Strong, incredible acceleration, fair leader as long as he gets in for breakfast first

Breed: Appaloosa
Height: 15.2hh
About: Likes fast canters and Marmite, also has enjoyed a glittering movie career. Formerly worked on a cattle ranch. Confident, strong, second in command

Age: 7
Breed: Colombian Criollo
Height: 14.2hh
About: Former roping horse, great at herding cattle. Fastest time on the barrel racing course here at the ranch. Extremely chatty and always the first one to come say hello when you go into the field

Breed: Appaloosa cross Quarter horse

About: The unicorn, incredible trail horse and also helped out with riding lessons and equine therapy when needed. The quarter horse in him gives incredible acceleration. Sweet and friendly, loves a good butt scratch with breakfast

About: The true professional. Intelligent, strong, polite. Extremely smart, the only one that needs no halter when coming in for breakfast, knows his spot and when finished takes himself back to the field without messing with the others (will stop for a scratch on his favourite tree)
